The Birth Story

Well, if it weren't for Truett I probably wouldn't even have this blog, so why not start with his birth story.

Summary of my pregnancy: I was just a few days over 36 weeks when my water broke. Up until this point I had a really great pregnancy. I was able to run and run/walk during the 8 months leading up to his birthday and overall I just felt good about being pregnant. I know a lot of preggo chics don't always feel that way so I feel pretty lucky. I also had a deep appreciation for a healthy pregnancy since a few months prior I had a miscarriage. Truett truly is a blessing!

Anywho...so my water breaks sometime in the middle of the night on December 22nd. Everyone who hasn't had their water break asks if it is like it is in the movies...you know, the gush of water. Well, when I first woke up I just felt a trickle...and I thought there was no way it was my water...so I rolled over and went back to bed...a few horus later I stand up and there was a gush...not like it flooded the bathroom floor or anything, but enough to know I wasn't dreaming.

We head to the hsopital. At this point I am now second guessing myself...I don't feel any contractions (in fact, I never even felt any at any point in the pregnancy..like I said...it was smooth going up till this point!) At the hospital they check me and sure enough I am in labor, although I still don't feel it. We are there all day....I am just slowly progressing....so fast foward they start me on pitocin when I am about 3 cm. I still don't feel contractions...I take a nap, wake up...and now I am feeling contractions. I am about 5 cm. The nurses are ready to give me the epi but I want to wait - it feels kind of cool in a totally weird way to feel contractions and have a bit of control...Ted helps me breathe through them...finally I am about 7/8 cm and realize I need to get the epi now b/c I DO NOT want to feel anything while pushing. The epi goes smoothly, Ted and I nap for an hour and when we wake up I'm 10 cm and ready to push. Truett arrives after 4 contractions, so about 10 minutes of pushing and he is in this world! I am so glad it is not all a blur...I remember every minute of it. Truly an amazing experience.

After 24 hours of labor Truett Riley arrives:
